This past weekend I finally finished Stephen King’s memoir, On Writing.
Two embarrassing facts: This is the first Stephen King book I’ve read. And I didn’t think it was going to be that interesting but everyone told me to read it, so I did.
This guy? I get it. And he’s next on my list and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long. (What’s your favorite Stephen King novel? I’m taking suggestions.)
If you have any inkling of wanting to be a writer, or just enjoy a a solid started from the bottom now we’re here* story, check it out.
My only regret is that I bought the Kindle version. I will probably hit up my local bookstore for a physical copy. It’s the kind of book you want to touch and feel and dog ear the crap out of. Maybe even highlight. Okay, not highlight (I can’t bring myself to do that!), but post-it note it?
Have you read it? Did you love it? What other books about writing have helped shape your style? Bird by Bird is waiting impatiently on my Kindle wish list as the next non-fiction pick.
*Yes. That was a Drake reference. I’m diverse like that. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Here. (it’s explicit, you’ve been warned)
